PRESS RELEASE: GST Awards 2011 – the 8th annual green ship technology conference, 21/22 March 2011, Oslo
The international GST 2011 event, organised by Informa Maritime Events and now in its 8th year, took place in Oslo on 21st and 22nd March 2011. The GST conference is a major international event in the maritime industry’s calendar and focuses on green ship technology developments that address the key environmental issues facing the maritime industry today.
As part of the GST 2011 conference, two of the leading Awards for the maritime industry are presented in recognition of the efforts being made to improve the environment and increase sustainability in shipping. This year, as in previous years, a diverse group of entries reflected the breadth of solutions being developed by the maritime industry to benefit the marine environment; the two Awards being presented are for Green Technology of the Year and Green Ship Service of the Year. This is the 4th year that the Awards have been presented.
The Judges’ short listed entries for Green Technology of the Year 2011 were:
Couple-Systems GmbH: dry exhaust gas cleaning system
Eniram: for dynamic trim assistance
NYK/MHI: for under keel air lubrication
The Judges’ short listed entries for Green Ship Service of the Year 2011 were:
The Danish Green Ship of the Future Project
The Norwegian NOx Fund
The final winners of the 2011 Awards are:
Green Technology of the Year: Couple-Systems GmbH for their dry exhaust gas cleaning system
Judges’ comments:
Couple- Systems demonstrated a unique solution for a specific challenge. Even though it still has some issues to be resolved there appears to be a solution with potential.
Green Ship Service of the Year: the Norwegian NOx Fund
Judges’ comments:
The Norwegian NOx Fund is basically an example of a positive model for supporting environmental technology upkeep. What the judges seemed most impressed with is that it is a model that other countries have been looking at emulating and, and while it has been focused on NOx reduction it has also demonstrated an ability to have an impact on CO2 reduction with some of the technologies it has supported.
The GST Awards 2011 were presented at the Conference Gala Dinner on Monday evening, 21st March, at the Ekeberg Restaurant, Oslo.
